How to Remove Dipping Powder

To remove dipping powder at home, you should soak your nails in acetone to help lift the powder. The easiest way to remove powder nails quickly is to cover them with a cotton ball soaked in pure acetone, wrap your fingers in aluminum foil, and leave them on for 30 minutes. Acetone will help break down the powder, allowing you to buff or scrape away the rest with a cuticle pusher from the starter kit.

As a hot tip, literally, you can try warming up the acetone before you start, which will make it work faster and more effectively on your nails. (Note: Acetone is highly flammable, so don’t heat it in the microwave – just let the bottle sit under hot water for a few minutes.)

Steps for Removal:

  1. Carefully trim off any excess length if you have extended nails, and cut them as close as possible to your natural nails.

  2. Use an (electric) nail file to remove the surface of the polish until the shine is completely gone. Removing the top layer helps the polish soften faster in acetone.

  3. Pour 100% acetone into a dish or bowl and soak your nails for about five minutes.

  4. Use a metal cuticle pusher to gently push the polish off your nails, from the cuticle down.

  5. Dip your nails into acetone for another five minutes and gently scrape off again. Repeat until the powder has fully dissolved.

  6. Buff away any remaining smaller pieces with a nail buffer.

  7. Massage cuticle oil into your nails to add moisture, then use the soft side of a buffer to polish it into your nails. Finish with a new layer of cuticle oil.

  8. Use a clear nail polish or nail strengthener to further strengthen your long nails.

By following these steps, you'll effectively and safely remove your dipping powder manicure.
